How to build your website using the power of moon cycles

The best moon phase for launching your website revealed…

How to flow with the moon to build your website

TLDR? The best moon phase for launching your website is the new moon phase.

New moons are the start of the lunar month and herald new beginnings. So, this moon phase is a great time to give your website the green light.

But there is so much more to flowing with the moon than that! If you stop here then it would be like serving up a low-fat tiramisu. It looks great at first glance but when you bite into it there’s no real flavour or substance. You don’t want your website to be a low-fat Tiramisu. And I don’t want your website to be a low-fat tiramisu either.

So here are my top tips on how to flow with the moon to build your website.

Why the best moon phase for launching your website is the new moon phase…

Actually, nope, sorry, I’m not starting at this phase. Let’s back up a little to understand why flowing with the moon is a good guide for your website build as a whole.

Why flowing with the moon to build your website will stop it being a low-fat tiramisu…

Everything in this world goes through cycles of expansion and contraction: the seasons, nature, our bodies, my belly (jokes). The list is endless. It’s when we fight against the universe’s and our own natural rhythms that things often stall or go wrong for us.

For example, by forcing ourselves to be busy when our hormones say “Slow down!” we end up tired and burned out. Or, when we push our bodies to stay up late beyond what our circadian rhythm wants then our creativity tends to snuff out or we get overly anxious.

By flowing with natural cycles rather than pushing against them, we operate at our best. That’s what it’s like to flow with the moon. When we build as the moon builds, and retreat as the moon retreats, we work in unison with the energy around us. Our ancestors realised the power of working this way. It’s only since we entered the modern ‘busy’ era that it’s been left behind and seen as “woo-woo”.

Would you like to give it a shot? Great, let’s get that full-fat tiramisu cooking! (You don’t actually cook a Tiramisu but you know what I mean.)

What are the moon phases and what do they mean?

The moon takes around 29.5 days to orbit the earth. This is its monthly lunar cycle.

During this cycle, it goes through four main phases (this can get broken down even further to eight phases but four is enough for the purpose of building your website).

These phases and their main themes are:

New moon – New beginnings, clean slates, intention-setting and potential.

Waxing Moon – Building energy (on the way to the bright full moon), courage, action, moving forward.

Full moon – Completion, culmination, illumination, forgiveness and gratitude.

Waning moon – Decreasing energy (on the way to the darkness of the new moon), reflection, release, surrender and clearing out.

Looking at this, you might think the full moon culmination point is the best moon phase for launching your website. But that would be like serving your tiramisu without the coffee… You’ll be missing the big energy hit. (And yes, the tiramisu references are going to continue through this blog). Read on to find out why…

How can you use the moon phases to build your website?

By using the moon phases to build and launch your website you’ll be guided when to strategise, dream, create, edit, reflect and publish. And you’ll be doing it in tune with the universal energy around you. How cool is that?

Point to note: the new moon is going to feature at the start and end of this cycle. We will use this magical energy to set intentions at one new moon and launch at the next.

New moon – The new moon is the beginning of the moon’s monthly cycle. At this point, it’s in darkness but it will soon begin to grow brighter on the way to the full moon. It’s a time of heightened intuition and there’s a little bit of magic in the air. Use it to tap into what you really want and what you instinctively know needs to be seen by the world.

Things to do: Set your intentions for what you want to achieve out of your website. Make your new moon wishes.

To help you do this, ask yourself:

  • What messages do I want to convey?
  • How do I want people to feel when they browse it?
  • What is the ultimate goal of the website (e.g. to achieve sales, more leads or to act as an information portal?)

Only you know the answers to these questions so go within and find out.

Next, write your intentions down and then add in actions and timescales. It’s a well-known fact that you’re more likely to achieve things when you write them down and make them timely and measurable.

For example, you could say, “I will create a website that will generate 20 new sales leads every month.”

So, from this, you already know that your website needs to have a lead collection form and focus on what product or service you have to offer.

A nice finishing touch is to sit for a while and visualise your completed website. Imagine it achieving the goal you set for it. (Perhaps you can see new orders coming into your inbox or your appointment calendar filling up, for example.) Picture it in as much detail as you can. Send the vibrations out. This is called manifesting.

You might be tempted to rush on and start building your website but hang fire. This is the dreaming time. This is when you let your intuition take over and you imagine all the amazing possibilities. You could meditate, sit still or go for a bath while you do it. Do anything that gives you time to think in silence and receive higher guidance.

Now you’ve planted the seeds for what you want to grow it’s time to start working on it…

Waxing moon –  This is the “doing” time. The moon is growing in energy and so are we. We are in the yang, masculine energy that calls us to be productive. It’s time to put your head down and take action on the intentions you set. Think big, challenging, exciting and bold moves.

This is the phase that you want to get the bulk of your website built in. It lasts around two weeks so use it to do all the heavy lifting and laying.

During this time, you want to: create your copy, choose your images, plan your user journey and work on your SEO.

Throughout this phase, keep thinking about what you want and have the courage to go after it. Don’t give up.

Full moon – The moon has reached its peak brightness. This is the culmination point so get your head down and finish the project. This phase lasts around three days.

At this point, you have already put a lot of hard work in. Take time to pat yourself on the back and give gratitude to yourself and anyone else who has helped you.

It’s also a time of forgiveness, so if you’ve been too hard on yourself then cut yourself some slack.

If you are feeling a bit unsure of whether you can launch this website then this is the time to let those insecurities go. You can do it. Let go of self-limiting beliefs such as:

  • I don’t have enough time
  • I can’t write good copy
  • I don’t have enough experience or client testimonials
  • I look terrible in my photos

A good full moon ritual is to write these beliefs down and burn them (safely) to release the negative energy into the ether. Say to yourself, “All is well and as it should be.”

Waning moon – This phase is about rest, reflection and release. So, without judgement, stop creating. Instead, review everything you have done so far. Don’t let your inner critic tell you it’s rubbish (last quarter moon falls in this phase and that’s when imposter syndrome can strike!) Remember, nothing is perfect on the first attempt. This is your time for editing and tweaking.

Consider what is and is not working. What feels good and what needs to go?

Read over your website copy – are you waffling? Could any excess words be removed?

Check your mobile optimisation – is anything out of alignment?

Are all your links working?

Have you tested your contact forms?

Show your hard work to a trusted friend or colleague. Take their feedback on board.

Make any necessary final tweaks. It’s almost launch time so now is a good time to take stock of how you feel about it.

Grab a pen and paper and let your inner feelings out. Here are some journal prompts to guide you:

  • How does your launch make you feel?
  • Why do you think that is?
  • Are you feeling any resistance? If so, why?
  • How can you overcome this?
  • Look back on the intentions you set at the start of your website build. Are you in alignment with them? If not, what needs to change?

Journalling helps us to release the emotions stuck within and it often helps us find clarity. It’s a good final way to use the waning moon to clear out what we don’t need ahead of the website launch.

New moon

All the hard work is done and it’s time to launch your website!

Try not to get cold feet, I know it’s daunting to put yourself out there but you need to trust the universe and its timing. Most of all, you need to trust yourself. You’ve put your best effort into this. You’re one step closer to your dreams and achieving what you want from life. Take action and hit the publish button. This is when the magic happens.

N.B. New and full moons are when the moon’s gravitational pull is at its strongest. Given that the moon controls our tidal system and we are made up of more than 60% water then some people find they are a bit “wired” on these days.

If this sounds familiar then don’t push yourself to launch on a new moon. The new moon phase lasts for approximately three days so give it a day or so until you feel calmer and more focussed.

And that is how you flow with the moon to launch your website. But, one more thing…

Using specific moons to launch your website

Not every moon is created equally! The moon is constantly moving through the signs of the zodiac so each month the new and full moons fall under a different sign.

We can use this to our advantage if we have a particular obstacle to overcome. For example, if the idea of launching your website terrifies you then perhaps you should consider launching under a Leo new moon so that you dare to do it.

Or, if you know that you are the most disorganised person on the planet then use the Virgo new moon vibes to lend you some planning skills.

You can visit a site such as Time and Date to see when the new and full moons fall.

When you learn to work with the moon and its changes in energy you learn to be more in flow with yourself.

Now you know the best moon phase for launching your website and hopefully a whole lot more. Will you be using the phases of the moon to build and launch your website?
